Toss Prediction

Australia and Pakistan have both elected to field first whenever they have won the toss so far in this series.

Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds and match prediction for Australia vs Pakistan – Zimbabwe T20 Tri Series.

Aus Team News

Australia handed Jack Wildermuth his T20 international debut in the last group game against Zimbabwe, adjusting the balance of their team by replacing opener D’Arcy Short. It is the only change they have made to their line-up during this series, with the other ten players all featuring in every game so far. That has meant no appearances for Kane Richardson – who was in poor form against England in their final game before this tournament – or Mitchell Swepson.

Aus Key Players

Aaron Finch headed to Harare on the back of a blistering 84 from 41 balls against England and he picked up where he left off in Harare. First, he hammered 68 from 33 balls as Australia too just 10.5 overs to chase 117 to beat Pakistan in their first game. Then came his incredible 172 from 76 balls against Zimbabwe – hitting 16 fours and ten sixes as he broke his own record T20 international score. Had he not been out hit wicket two balls before the end of the innings, he may have broken the world T20 record of 175.

Finch put on 223 with D’Arcy Short (46 from 42 balls) for another T20 international record, with both openers only dismissed in the final over.

Most recently, Glenn Maxwell was in the runs – hitting 56 from 38 balls in the win against Zimbabwe last time out.

With the ball, Andrew Tye has taken three wickets in each of the first four matches, with 3-12 against Zimbabwe his best figures so far. That continues the form he showed in claiming the IPL Purple Cap for most wickets – having taken 24 in 14 matches, including three four-fers.

When these teams first met, meanwhile, it was Billy Stanlake who stole the bowling headlines – taking 4-8 from four overs as he dismissed Pakistan’s top four – three of them caught by Finch. Stanlake claimed 2-21 in the most recent match against Zimbabwe too.

Aus Team Form

Australia had won their last five T20 matches until their defeat to England at Edgbaston. That was the their only game of that tour, but they bounced back in Harare by bowling Pakistan out for 116 in their opening game. Billy Stanlake claimed 4-8, while Aaron Finch’s unbeaten 68 led them home comfortably for a nine-wicket win.

Next up, Finch’s record-breaking 172 from 76 balls helped them to 229/2 from 20 overs, before Andrew Tye took 3-12 with the ball in a 100-run victory. Their resurgence was checked when Pakistan hit 194/7 and restricted Australia to 149/7 in their next game, but they finished the group stage on a high by beating Zimbabwe to top the group. The hosts posted 151/9 but Glenn Maxwell hit 56 from 38 balls as Australia won by five wickets with a ball to spare.

Pak Team News

Mohammad Amir returned to the team for the final two group games, while Haris Sohail has replaced Mohammad Hafeez at the top of the order – though he has been similarly short of runs. Shaheen Afridi took three wickets as Pakistan beat Australia in their most recent game – his first appearance of the series – and may retain his place for the final as a result.

Pak Key Players

Fakhar Zaman has top scored for Pakistan in three of their four matches so far, including 61 from 40 balls in the first game against Zimbabwe and 73 from 42 as Pakistan beat Australia last time out. Asif Ali has also been in the runs, hitting an unbeaten 41 against Zimbabwe and an unbeaten 37 against Australia.

Shadab Khan is ranked second in the world for T20i bowling and he has three wickets in four matches so far. Pakistan’s bowlers have shared the wickets, with Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali also taking three in the series.

Pak Team Form

Pakistan have won 22 of their last 26 matches in T20 international cricket. Defeat to Australia in their first meeting in Harare ended an eight-match winning streak – New Zealand, in January, having been the last team to beat them prior to that. Pakistan won the final two games of that series and then whitewashed West Indies and Scotland before landing in Harare.

They have beaten the hosts twice, with Fakhar Zaman in the runs, however, and also beat Australia last time out as Zaman again led the way in a 45-run victory – Shaheen Afridi’s 3-37 checking Australia’s chase.

Pakistan Predicted Playing 11

AUS vs PAK Head to Head

Pakistan’s win in the most recent match between the two was their first in four games against Australia. Australia had previously posted 193/4 in a 21-run win at the World T20, before two excellent bowling displays in the following two games. Pakistan were restricted to 96/9 from their full 20 overs in the UAE – Australia winning with six overs to spare – and then 116 all out from 19.5 overs (Billy Stanlake taking 4-8) in Harare. Australia won the latter with 55 balls still to bowl after Aaron Finch raced to 68 not out.

Last time out, however, Fakhar Zaman hit 73 from 42 balls to set the tone in a score if 194/7 from their 20 overs despite Andrew Tye’s 3-28. In reply, Shaheen Afridi’s 3-37 checked Australia’s progress as they fell to a 45-run defeat.

Australia vs Pakistan Betting Odds

Despite their recent T20 form, Pakistan are outsiders with the bookmakers. Bet365 are offering 2.20 on a Pakistan win and 1.66 for Australia to win.

Aaron Finch is going to be the key – if he scores runs, Australia are hard to stop and he is 3.50 to be their top batsman on Sunday.

Fakhar Zaman was Pakistan’s top batsman in three of their four group games and yet you can still back him at 4.00 to be their top scorer again against Australia.

Australia vs Pakistan Prediction

Pakistan have climbed to number one in the world but Australia’s bowlers – and Andrew Tye in particular – are in good form. They proved that in their first game against Pakistan and though they lost last time out, they boast in-form Aaron Finch too – if he scores runs, it will swing this one Australia’s way.
