WBBL 2018-19 Sydney Thunder Women vs Melbourne Stars Women 42nd Match Prediction

ABOUT THE MATCH

They will be taking on the Melbourne Stars women that started the WBBL with a lot of promise but have since started to slip down the WBBL standings. In fact, with four wins from ten matches, the Melbourne Stars are barely staying abreast with the rest of the group.

They will need to start winning now to be able to have a shot of making the playoffs.

MATCH PREVIEW

SYDNEY THUNDER WOMEN

Sydney Thunder comes into this match after an excellent performance where they demolished the tournament favorites, Sydney Sixers. Most of the victories for Sydney Thunder have come about because of their strong batting lineup but this last win can be attributed to the Thunder bowling attack.

Griffith, Trenaman, and Carey picked two wickets a piece to break the back of the Sydney Sixers batting. The runs just did not come for the defending champions and in the end, Sydney Thunder had to chase down just 99 to win.

The Sydney Thunder to order made short work of the task ahead of them as Haynes and Stalenberg scored freely. Haynes fell for an aggressive 43 when the scores were level while Stalenberg remained not out on 44.

The strength of this Sydney Thunder unit has been its exceptional batting lineup. Haynes, Priest, Staleneberg, Kaur, Blackwell, and Taylor are all capable of scoring match-winning runs on their own. Among these, we have been most impressed with Haynes at the top of the order and Harmanpreet Kaur for her amazing ability to hit sixes.

The women’s Big Bash League is still short of players that can clear the boundaries with ease at any stage of the inning and that are what makes Harmanpreet Kaur so valuable.

There is no doubt that Sydney Thunder women will go into this next match with a better batting lineup than the Melbourne Stars.

The Thunder bowling attack is also going to be full of confidence after their brilliant showing in the last match.

Sydney Thunder Women Team

Alex Blackwell, Rachael Haynes, Stafanie Taylor, Lisa Griffith, Harmanpreet Kaur, Rachel Trenaman, Hannah Darlington, Nicola Carey, Rene Farrell, Belinda Vakarewa, Maisy Gibson, Saskia Horley, Naomi Stalenberg, Rachel Priest.

MELBOURNE STARS WOMEN

The Melbourne Stars have fallen down the pecking order after a promising start to the WBBL. We believe that it is batting strength that decides how well a tournament does in the WBBL because the bowling attacks are pretty evenly matched across the board.

While the Melbourne Stars started the WBBL with Lizelle Lee scoring a brilliant hundred, she has not been able to replicate that kind of success too often. As a result, the Melbourne Stars women have struggled for runs since they don’t have too many more batters that can take up the slack.

Du Preez was one of the players that we expected to make more of an impact this season of the WBBL than she has. For someone that has immense experience playing the international game, her lack of runs has cost the Melbourne Stars dearly.

Reakes, Osborne, and Mack have shown some promise it is clear that Lee and du Preez have to do most of the heavy lifting for the Melbourne Stars women to win matches.

That is just not happening at the moment.

The Melbourne Stars bowling is not too bad but nothing special either. Like most teams, they need some runs on the board for the bowlers to be really effective. It is extremely rare to see bowlers run through sides in the WBBL.

Ferling, King, Hancock, and the others will continue to be steady but don’t expect them to win too many matches.

TOSS PREDICTION

The side winning the toss is likely to want to bat first

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

The WBBL match between Sydney Thunder women and Melbourne Stars women is going to be played at the Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney. The pitch is expected to be a bit slow and conducive to spin in this match.

The weather in Sydney has been pretty hot and the same is forecast for match day.

We should have a relatively low scoring match even though the dimensions of the ground are pretty small.

OUR PREDICTION

Sydney Thunder women are a better unit than the Melbourne Stars unit by far. Sydney Thunder has had more success, is in better form, and simply outclasses the Stars in terms of batting strength.

Back Sydney Thunder women to win.
