Northern Warriors Team News & Playing 11

NW Team News

Ten places in the Northern Warriors appear to be settled but Khary Pierre was selected ahead of Dwayne Smith last time out to provided an extra bowling option. That was the only change after the defeat to Pakhtoons and the Warriors may stick with the team that booked their place in the final.

NW  Key Players

Nicolas Pooran top-scored in five consecutive matches for the Northern Warriors during the league phase and – after a rare failure against Pakhtoons – bounced back to top-score again with 43 not out from 16 balls against Maratha Arabians.

Pooran has hit two half-centuries, with a high-score of 77, and has been unbeaten in the 40s in three of his last four innings to move to top scorer in the tournament so far.

Rovman Powell was the top batsman when they last faced Pakhtoons, meanwhile, bludgeoning 80 not out from 35 balls. Lendl Simmons and Andre Russell have also been in the runs at various points, with the latter clearing the fences wit regularity.

Hardus Viljoen has been their bowling star, meanwhile. The South African claimed 3-6 in the win against Maratha Arabians, and also took three in the match against Pakhtoons. He has 16 wickets in the tournament so far – eight of which have come in his last three games.

NW Team Form

Northern Warriors lost their first match but then claimed five consecutive wins in the league phase. Nicolas Pooran top-scored in all five of those victories, while Hardus Viljoen was the stand-out bowler.

In the play-offs, however, they lost to Pakhtoons in the first qualifier, despite Viljoen’s 3-26 and Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 80. Pakhtoons put 135/5 on the board in their ten overs and Northern Warriors fell short on 122/4.

Northern Warriors bounced back against Maratha Arabians though. Viljoen took 3-6 from his two overs to restrict the Arabians to 72/8 and Nicolas Pooran’s unbeaten 43 led the Warriors to a ten-wicket win.

Northern Warriors Predicted Playing 11

  • Lendl Simmons, Nicolas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Khary Pierre, Ravi Bopara, Darren Sammy, Chris Green, Wahab Riaz, Hardus Viljoen, Imran Haider

Pakhtoons Team News & Playing 11

Pakht Team News

Pakhtoons made three changes for the win against Northern Warriors in the first play-off, with captain Shahid Afridi among the players returning. RP Singh and Sharafuddin Ashraf also came back in, with Gulbadin Naib and Shapoor Zadran missing out, along with David Willey who had been expensive with the ball in the previous game. Naib can consider himself unlucky to be dropped, however, and it remains to be seen if Singh and Sharfuddin have done enough to retain their places. Pakhtoons may well stick with a winning line-up, however.

Pakht Key Players

Andre Fletcher has hit two half-centuries and has 267 runs in total from his seven games for Pakhtoons – only Nicolas Pooran has scored more in the tournament. Fletcher twice hit an unbeaten 68 in the group stage.

Colin Ingram came into form in the latter part of the group stages, with an unbeaten 42 in he win against Maratha Arabians and another top score of 29 in the defeat to Punjabi Legends.

Shahid Afridi was top-scorer in the first qualifier, however, scoring seven sixes in his 17-ball 59 not out.

With the ball, Mohammad Irfan’s two wickets took him to nine for the tournament so far and joint-second in the bowling charts as a result. Liam Dawson did not bowl but still has six wickets to his name.

Pakht Team Form

Like Northern Warriors, Pakhtoons lost their opening game and then went on a winning streak. They won four in a row, with Andre Fletcher scoring 68 not out in wins against both Rajputs and Sindhis.

Fletcher top scored again in the win against Bengal Tigers that followed, before an eight-wicket triumph chasing 126 to win against Maratha Arabians. They lost to Punjabi Legends with a changed side but bounced back well with play-off success.

Against Northern Warriors, Shahid Afridi hit 59 not out from 17 balls in a total of 135/5 before Pakhtoons held the hosts to 122/4 in reply – Mohammad Irfan taking 2-20.
