South Africa opted to bat first in the first T20 international and they could look to bat first again given their success doing so when they last played at Senwes Park too.

SA Team News
Gihahn Cloete and Rassie van der Dussen both made their T20 international debuts in the first game at Buffalo Park, with JP Duminy rested. Quinton de Kock returned in place of Heinrich Klaasen, having been rested for the ODI series, but Klaasen may be selected as a batsman as South Africa continue to use these matches against Zimbabwe to rotate their squad. Other players hoping for an opportunity in either this or the final match are all-rounder Robbie Frylinck and bowler Dane Paterson.
SA Key Players
Rassie van der Dussen, having impressed in franchise cricket, took his opportunity on his T20 international debut as he hit a half-century against Zimbabwe, scoring 56 from 44 balls and sharing important rebuilding partnerships with Faf du Plessis and David Miller.
Du Plessis and Miller are also danger men with the bat, having hit 34 and 39 respectively in the previous game. Miller hit an unbeaten century from just 36 balls when South Africa last played at Senwes Park, meanwhile – hitting seven fours and nine sixes in his innings.
Imran Tahir is now South Africa’s leading T20 international wicket taker after his 5-23 from four overs in the first match against Zimbabwe, meanwhile. Tahir’s leg spin has now accounted for 62 wickets in just 37 T20 internationals. He also claimed ten wickets in the ODI series too.
The pace attack also impressed at Buffalo Park, with Lungi Ngidi claiming 1-7 from just three overs, and Junior Dala and Adile Phehlukwayo both weighing in with two wickets apiece.
SA Team Form
South Africa’s win in the first T20 international was only their second in five games in the format in 2018, having lost 2-1 in a three-match series at home to India in February before losing a low-scoring one-off match to Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Junior Dala took seven wickets in India, a further two in the three-wicket defeat (defending just 98 all out) to Sri Lanka and now two against Zimbabwe in the first match of this series.
South Africa’s last T20 series win came at home to Bangladesh a year ago, when they won by 20 runs thanks to Quinton de Kock’s half-century in Bloemfontain before the 83-run victory, courtesy of David Miller’s explosive 36-ball unbeaten century, in their only previous T20 international at Senwes Park.
South Africa Predicted Playing 11

Zimbabwe Team News & Playing 11
ZIM Team News
Despite taking six wickets in the ODI series and 15 in his last 13 T20 internationals, Tendai Chatara as a surprise omission for the first T20 international, while Solomon Mire – who was their top scorer in Zimbabwe’s T20 Tri Series against Australia and Pakistan – also missed out. Both could return at Senwes Park as Zimbabwe look to bounce back from their defeat in East London.
ZIM Key Players
Solomon Mire’s omission from the first T20 international was all the more surprising when you consider his form, hitting 212 runs in the Zimbabwe T20 Tri Series. He was the hosts’ top scorer in three of their four matches and hit 94 against Pakistan (from 63 balls) and 63 from 52 against Australia.
Peter Moor at least gave them something to be cheerful about in the defeat at Buffalo Park, however – a late 44 from 21 balls, including five sixes, to add some respect to the scoreline. It was his highest T20 international score, a format in which he otherwise averages 22.9 with the bat.
Kyle Jarvis was expensive with the ball, but his 3-37 from four overs means he now has 17 wickets to his name in 13 T20 internationals. Chris Mpofu, selected ahead of Tendai Chatara, took 2-24 from his four overs, meanwhile – showing the sort of form he displayed for the Zimbabwe Select XI in Harare in June.
ZIM Team Form
Zimbabwe’s defeat at Buffalo Park extended their losing streak in this format and they have now lost all seven T20 matches they have played in 2018. They started the year with two back-to-back defeats against Afghanistan in Sharjah, before losing all four games they played against Pakistan and Australia in the T20 Tri-Nation Series in Harare.
In the latter, they did at least finish stronger than they started – bouncing back from two crushing defeats thanks to Solomon Mire’s batting as they lost both of their last two games in the final over.
They lost again at Buffalo Park, however – Peter Moor’s late hitting masking what was otherwise a very one-sided game, as Zimbabwe fell to a 34-run defeat.
Zimbabwe Predicted Playing 11
- Solomon Mire, Hamilton Masakadza, Tarisai Musakanda, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Peter Moor, Elton Chigumbura, Tendai Chisoro, Brandon Mavuta, Kyle Jarvis, Chris Mpofu

SA vs ZIM Head to Head
The match at Buffalo Park was only the fourth time these two teams have met in the shortest format of the game. South Africa have won all four of those, however – twice on Zimbabwe’s tour of South Africa in 2010, then at the 2012 World Twenty20 when Jacques Kallis’ superb bowling helped them to a ten-wicket win – restricting Zimbabwe to just 93/8 from 20 overs – and finally last time out, when Imran Tahir was the star with 5-23.
South Africa vs Zimbabwe 2nd T20 Match Prediction with Betting Tips
Zimbabwe vs South Africa Betting Odds
South Africa are huge favourites to beat Zimbabwe, which is little surprise given the results on this tour so far. You can back the hosts to win at 1.08 with Bet365 and 1.12 with Betway.
After his half-century last time out, Rassie van der Dussen is 5.00 to be their top batsman again, but Faf du Plessis (4.50) and David Miller (5.50) also showed good form in that game. Miller hit a century the last time South Africa played at Senwes Park too.
Solomon Mire is 5.00 to be Zimbabwe’s top batsman. He achieved that in three of the four matches in the Zimbabwe T20 Tri-Nation Series but was a surprise omission from the line-up for the first match.
Imran Tahir’s leg spin was key to South Africa’s win, meanwhile, and he is 3.75 to be South Africa’s top bowler again.
South Africa vs Zimbabwe Prediction
South Africa have totally dominated Zimbabwe so far, and they have the batting and bowling to continue to do that at Senwes Park.
Final Verdict: South Africa to beat Zimbabwe at 1.08 with Bet365 and 1.12 with Betway.
