South Africa have won five of their last six ODIs, beating Zimbabwe 3-0 on home soil and then winning 2-1 away to Australia most recently.
Having beaten Sri Lanka 3-2 beforehand – after winning the first three matches in the series – they bowled Zimbabwe out for 117 in their first ODI of the following series, with Lungi Ngidi taking 3-19 to set up a five-wicket win. Imran Tahir took a hat-trick and 6-24 in total in the following game as, defending just 198, South African bowled the tourists out for 78. The final game saw Zimbabwe post 228, but Reeza Hendricks’s half-century helped seal a comfortable four-wicket win and a series whitewash.
In Australia, South Africa bowled the hosts out for 152 on their way to a six-wicket win in the first match, but Kagiso Rabada’s 4-54 and David Miller’s half-century proved in vain in the second as Australia defending 231 all out to win by just seven runs. In the decider, however, Miller (139) and Du Plessis (125) shared a 252-run partnership in a total of 320/5 as South Africa – with Rabada claiming another three wickets – bagged a 40-run win and a 2-1 series victory.

Shaheen Afridi claimed nine wickets in that series, and took ten across the three tests most recently too, In his six ODI matches to date, he has claimed 13 wickets at an average of 17.61 and an economy rate of 4.88. He could lead the attack with the returning Mohammad Amir, who took 12 wickets in the test series and claimed two wickets apiece in his two most recent domestic List A appearances.

Pakistan have had mixed form in the 50-over game since thrashing India by 180 runs to win the Champions Trophy in England in 2017. They whitewashed Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in two of their three following series, but were whitewashed themselves in between in New Zealand – all three series have been five matches each.
Since beating Zimbabwe so convincingly, Pakistan reached the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup, as Imam-ul-Haq scored three half-centuries and Shoaib Malik hit two. Defeat to Bangladesh in their final game – posting just 202/9 despite Imam’s 83 in reply to 239 all out – cost them a place in the final, however.
Pakistan then faced New Zealand and lost the first ODI by 47 runs despite Shadab Khan’s 4-38 and Sarfraz Ahmed scoring 64 from 69 balls in a total of 219 all out. They bounced back by winning the next game, as Fakhar Zaman (88) and Babar Azam (46) led a chase of 209/9 in a six-wicket win. The series was tied, however, after rain ruined the final game after Pakistan – powered by Babar Azam’s 92 and Zaman’s 65 – had posted 279/8 from their 50 overs.
