ABOUT THE MATCH
India have already won the series and will be looking for a clean sweep with a win in the upcoming fixture between the two sides which is to be played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on 1st February. The match will be played on the same venue where India plays New Zealand a day earlier. Usually, New Zealand have never gone down without putting up a fight and we believe they’ll come hard in the final encounter of the series.
NEW ZEALAND WOMEN
Just like the men’s team, the Kiwi women’s team is going through a dismal run so far in the home conditions. Their batting has failed miserably in both the ODIs and bowling, too, couldn’t do much thereafter.
In their last match, they got off to the worst possible start and lost Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine withing the fourth over of the innings. After a brief partnership with Amy Satterthwaite, Down perished with leaving the Kiwis at three down for 33. Wickets kept falling and it was only the partnership between Amy Sattherwaite and Kasperek that allowed Kiwis to get to a respectable total. Barring Satterthwaite, who scored 71, no batter was able to push Indian bowlers as New Zealand Women eventually folded for 161.
With such a low total to defend in fifty overs, Kiwis needed early wickets. Although they got rid of in-form Rodqiue and Deepti Sharma in quick succession. However, the low score put up by their batswomen allowed Indians to take time and settle down as they overhauled the target without any further damage.
Indians have been super-fluent in all of their recent campaigns so far. They did reasonably well in the ICC Women’s World T20 and were brilliant in the past two matches of their ongoing series against New Zealand.
In both the matches, the bowlers have been the main reasons for India’s victory. On both occasions, their bowlers have dismantled New Zealand completely whereas the Kiwis have been able to pick just three Indian wickets in the two matches combined. Ekta Bisht and Poonam Yadav have done exceedingly well in both the matches having picked five wickets between them without giving much away.
Similar to the form their bowling has been in, Indian top-order has done tremendously well. Smriti Mandhana has already scored a hundred and a fifty in the series, whereas Mithali Raj and Rodriques both have a fifty each to their name. With both batting and bowling doing exceedingly well, it’s certainly going to be tough for New Zealand to stop Indians in the upcoming encounter.
Clearly, it’s been Indian women who have looked way ahead of the hosts in the two ODIs gone so far. This is the last ODI of the series before the two teams turn their focus towards the shortest format of the game. The Women in blue will be looking for a clean sweep whereas the Black Caps will be looking to redeem themselves by posting a solitary win. Considering the proceedings of the two games gone so far, we think the Indian women will emerge on top and win the series 3-0.
