Mzansi Super League 2018 – Cape Town Blitz vs Jozi Stars Final Match Prediction. The inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League is drawing to a close and we have what we think are the two best teams competing for the prize. Cape Town Blitz will be taking on the Jozi Stars to try and be the first champions of the MSL.
The manner in which both these teams got to the final was a bit anticlimactic. Cape Town Blitz dominated the league stage of the tournament and became the first team to get a berth in the final. The Jozi Stars were scheduled to play Paarl Rocks in the MSL Eliminator but continuous rain made that match impossible to take place.
The Jozi Stars had finished above Paarl Rocks in the MSL league standings and thus qualified for the Mzansi Super League final without bowling a ball or scoring a run in the Eliminator.
Which of these two sides will win the MSL final?
- Cape Town Blitz finished one point ahead of Jozi Stars in the league phase – the difference between a no result and a loss.
- Both teams beat the other away from home, however, with Jozi Stars winning their only previous game at Newlands when Reeza Hendricks hammered 79 from 48 balls and Dan Christian took 4-22 with the ball.
- Jozi Stars boast the highest run scorer of the tournament so far in Rassie van der Dussen (410 runs) and the highest wicket-taker, Duanne Olivier (18 from eight matches). Cape Town Blitz’s marquee player Quinton de Kock is just three runs behind van der Dussen, however, from three less games.

CTB Team News
Cape Town Blitz were unchanged for their final group game and, despite losing, are unlikely to be ringing the changes ahead of the final either. That will mean Quinton de Kock at the top of the order with the Malans, and a bowling line-up led by Dale Steyn.
CTB Key Players
Quinton de Kock carried his bat for 86 from 55 balls in the final league phase – his third half-century in just seven games, to complement the 108 he smashed against Spartans at Centurion. He also hit 93 against Paarl Rocks in the penultimate league game at Cape Town and hit 74 when the Blitz beat Jozi Stars in Johannesburg.
De Kock opens the batting with Janneman Malan, who has been consistent so far with 305 runs from nine innings. He hit two half centuries, one of which was against Jozi Stars, while he also hit 43 when these two teams last met at Newlands.
With the ball, Dale Steyn has impressed in more ways than one. He took 11 wickets in eight games, and has an economy rate of 6.67 runs per over from the 31 overs he has bowled.
Malusi Siboto has taken eight wickets with his medium pace, meanwhile, including combined figures of 3/50 from the last two matches.
CTB Team Form
Cape Town Blitz started the MSL 2018 with a 49-run win against Tshwane Spartans on the opening night and never looked back.
They won six and lost three of their ten matches in total, with a single no result. That included wins in each of their first four matches, however – meaning they have two wins from six since.
Jozi Stars won by 50 runs at Newlands despite Janneman Malan’s 43 from 37 balls but the Blitz hit back to beat Paarl Rocks by six wickets – Quinton de Kock thumping 93 from 47 balls after Dale Steyn had restricted the visitors to 144/9. They lost their most recent game, however, despite more big hitting from De Kock (86* from 55 balls), as Durban Heat chased 162 to win in the final over.

JS Team News
After three single-figure scores, there is a chance Chris Gayle will not play in the inaugural Mzansi Super League final. He did not feature against Tshwane Spartans, and saw Ryan Rickleton and Reeza Hendricks open the batting with aplomb in his place.
After the bowlers also played their part in a 101-run win that day, Jozi Stars could opt to stick with that winning line-up after the eliminator was washed out.
JS Key Players
Jozi Stars boast both the top run scorer in the Mzansi Super League and the top wicket taker too. Rassie van der Dussen is the former, after 410 runs from his ten innings so far, including three 50s and a high score of 96 not out in his most recent innings. That followed 83* against Paarl Rocks in the previous match.
Reeza Hendricks, meanwhile, hit back-to-back centuries earlier in the competitions, sandwiched by two half-centuries. His high score was 108* against the Giants, while he also hit 79 at Newlands against Cape Town Blitz.
Ryan Rickleton has also been in the runs, hitting 45 in the most recent game, while he has a high score of 91 from when Jozi Stars beat Paarl Rocks earlier in the tournament.
As for the bowling, Duanne Olivier has 18 wickets from eight innings, and Kagiso Rabada has taken 12 in the same time. The star in their most recent completed game, however, was Nono Pongolo, who claimed incredible figures of 6-20 from his four overs.
JS Team Form
Jozi Stars won six of their ten league games to finish second in the table, finishing in style with a huge 101-run win against Tshwane Spartans. Rassie van der Dussen hit 96* in a total of 239/3, before Nono Pongolo ripped through the Spartans’ batting line-up with 6-20 from four overs.
It was the perfect response to their last-over defeat to Paarl Rocks, when they failed to defend 170/6 (Van der Dussen hitting 83*) in six-wicket loss. They did win back-to-back games before then, however – captain Dane Vilas top-scoring in a one-wicket, last over win chasing just 129 to beat Durban Heat after their win at Newlands. Against the Blitz, it was Reeza Hendricks who top scored with 79 from 48 balls in a total of 196/4, before Daniel Christian took 4-22 to help bowl the hosts out for 146.
