New acquisition Evin Lewis and opening partner Tamim Iqbal could form an explosive partnership at the top of the order if the runs start flowing for the duo. With a middle order packed with experience – captain Steve Smith and experienced Pakistani all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi included – this is a side boasting plenty of batting talent. And that is all before in-form Thisara Perera links up with the squad later in the tournament too.
COM Key Players
Tamim Iqbal hit three half-centuries in the longer one-day games during that leg of West Indies’ tour of Bangladesh and played his way back into form with a patient 35 from 34 balls last time out.
He is partnering Evin Lewis at the top of the order – fresh from his 89 from 36 balls in the decisive final T20 against Bangladesh before Christmas – and both men could form one of the key partnerships of this tournament if they fire.
In the middle order, captain Steve Smith’s arrival dominated the headlines but Shoaib Malik boats plenty of experience and was in good all-round form in the National T20 Cup in Pakistan before Christmas. Countryman Shahid Afridi was the star of the opening game, meanwhile, accelerating the innings perfectly with an unbeaten 39 from 25 balls to lead the Victorians to victory.
Afridi had earlier claimed a wicket too, while Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Saifuddin all claimed two apiece. Saifuddin took 16 wickets in 13 games for Comilla Victorians in last year’s tournament too.

RGR Team News
With Chris Gayle’s NOC delayed – though it is due to be granted by the West Indies Cricket Board – Rangpur Riders were unchanged from their opening defeat for their second game. If Gayle is cleared to play, it could be England’s Alex Hales who makes way given Rilee Rossouw, Ravi Bopara and Benny Howell have all impressed so far. Alternatively, Nadif Chowdhury is a spin-bowling option to replace Howell, if the Riders want to keep Hales at the top of the order. There will be more selection headaches to come too, with AB de Villiers yet to join up with the squad for his BPL stint.
RGR Key Players
Rilee Rossouw hit his best form in the win against Khulna Titans, opening the batting with an unbeaten 76 from 52 balls. That included a century partnership with Ravi Bopara (40* from 29), with the English all-rounder having now scored 84 runs across the first two games.
A selection dilemma of Chris Gayle – the star of last year’s play-offs, who scored 146 not out from 69 balls in the final, and top scored with 485 from 11 innings in total – or Alex Hales, England’s explosive opening batsman, is a nice one to have too. One or both will feature in this game, with Gayle awaiting his NOC from the WICB.

COM vs RGR Head to Head
Comilla Victorians have won five of their eight matches against the Rangpur Riders, losing the other three. That includes last year’s play-off when, despite topping the points table, the Victorians failed to reach the final after a 36-run defeat – Johnson Charles’ unbeaten 105 from 63 balls, and Brendon McCullum’s 46-ball 78 which included nine sixes – making the difference.
In the league stage, Comilla had won both matches between the two teams – Mahedi Hasan claiming 4-22 as they bowled Rangpur out for 97 in the more recent of those matches, while Mohammad Saifuddin took 3-22. The other match saw Imrul Kayes top score for Comilla in a total of 153/6, before Mahedi Hasan’s 2-15 helped them to a 14-run win despite Ravi Bopara hitting an unbeaten 48.
Comilla Victorians vs Rangpur Riders Betting Odds
After bouncing back from their opening defeat, Rangpur Riders are favourites to beat Comilla Victorians at 1.80 with Bet365 and Betfair. Comilla Victorians are 2.00 to win.
The key could be whether Chris Gayle plays and, if so, what sort of form he is in. He is 5.00 to finish as top batsman with Betfair.
Should he play, and partner Rilee Rossouw at the top of the order, the odds of 2.00 from Betfair on Rangpur posting the highest opening partnership could be generous. Bet365 have priced Comilla Victorians at 2.00, however – and if Evin Lewis and Tamim Iqbal fire, that will prove a very generous price.
Comilla Victorians vs Rangpur Riders Prediction
Rangpur Riders could welcome Chris Gayle back to the starting line-up and, even if the West Indian misses out, the defending champions proved they have the batting strength to win.
