Our Pick: Chittagong Vikings
ABOUT THE MATCH
Excitement continues to build up in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as fans experience yet another game full of drama and emotions. The battle between Chittagong Vikings and Khulna Titans turned out to be a cliffhanger as BPL 2019 saw its first super-over which was ultimately won by Chittagong Vikings. With that loss, the Titans were pushed even deeper into the hole they dig for themselves.
The Vikings will be taking on Comilla Victorians in their next encounter at Dhaka on the evening of 13th January. This game will be the last one of the first leg of BPL before we move to Sylhet and the winner will get to the top of the table, along with Dhaka Dynamites, albeit taking one extra match.

Chittagong Team News
Former national hero Mohammad Ashraful was dropped for the match against Khulna Titans – the only change the Vikings have made across three games so far – and after his replacement, Yasir Ali, scored 41 from 34 balls, he is likely to remain out of the team.
Chittagong Key Players
Robbie Frylinck has claimed eight wickets in three games so far, including 4-14 as the Vikings won their opening game against Rangpur Riders. He followed that up with 3-26 and an unbeaten 44 in the Vikings’ narrow defeat to Sylhet Sixers before another wicket and two sixes in the last over with the bat earned a tie with Khulna Titans. In the subsequent super over, Frylinck scored four of the Vikings’ 11 runs and then bowled tightly to earn victory.
Nayeem Hasan has backed him with the ball, with figures of 2-10, 1-20 and 1-16 in his three games so far. His economy rate has been key, while Hasan also hit a six in the final over of the tie with Khulna Titans.
At the top of the order, Mohammad Shahzad is looking to replicate the form he showed in the Afghanistan Premier League – where he was one of the stand-out batsman – while Cameron Delport has enjoyed franchise T20 success across the globe too.
Yasir Ali top-scored last time out, in his first appearance of the season, scoring 41 to follow up the good batting form he has shown across other formats in Bangladesh’s domestic leagues.

Comilla Victorians Team News & Playing 11
Comilla Team News
Steve Smith’s absence with an elbow injury – for which he will need surgery and miss the rest of the tournament – meant Liam Dawson made his first start of the tournament last time out. Comilla Victorians are soon to welcome Sri Lankan batsman Thisara Perera now his international commitments are over but Dawson’s tidy bowling means the team could be unchanged before they welcome their new arrivals for the second phase in Sylhet.
Comilla Key Players
Comilla Victorians tweaked the batting line-up successfully against Rajshahi Kings – Anamul Haque opening with Evin Lewis and Tamim Iqbal dropping to number three. They scored 40, 28 and 21 respectively so the move was clearly successful.
The star of the show, however, was veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who took 3-10 from four overs with the ball and then sealed victory with a six. Afridi has taken four wickets in total and scored 73 runs in his three innings – top-scoring with an unbeaten 39 in the first game.
Lewis and Iqbal will look to add more runs now, particularly after Lewis’ series-winning innings for West Indies against Bangladesh in Dhaka just before Christmas.
Liam Dawson impressed with the ball in his first appearance, meanwhile, taking 2-17 from four overs last time out. Mohammad Saifuddin also weighed in with two wickets, taking him to four in three games. He took 16 wickets in 13 matches for the Victorians last season.
Comilla Team Form
Comilla Victorians opened with a win, restricting Sylhet Sixers to 127/8 as Mohammad Saifuddin claimed 2-13 from three overs, before Shahid Afridi’s unbeaten 39 led them to a four-wicket win in the final over.
A batting collapse – despite Afridi adding 25 more – saw them dismissed for 63 in their following game, a nine-wicket defeat to Rangpur Riders, but they bounced back to beat Rajshahi Kings last time out. Afridi took 3-10 from four overs as the Kings were bowled out for 124, while Anamul Haque top-scored in the chase with 40 from 32 balls, before Afridi hit the match-winning six with eight balls remaining.
