Our Pick: Comilla Victorians
ABOUT THE MATCH
The Bangladesh Premier League has been very closely matched this season and except for the Dhaka Dynamites, no team has been able to open up a lead for itself. There have also been a few teams that have underperformed and left their teams a bit disappointed. Two of those, Sylhet Sixers and Comilla Victorians, will be playing against each other in this match.
The Sylhet Sixers have won just one out of their three matches so far while the Comilla Victorians have won two out of their four. This start does not leave them out of the running by any means but the need to get the balance right is apparent for both teams.

Sylhet Sixers Team News & Playing 11
SYL Team News
Sohail Tanvir replaced countryman Mohammad Irfan last time out, as the Sylhet Sixers opted for an extra spin option instead of the paceman. It was their only change, and Tanvir bowled tidily enough, but Irfan’s height and pace could be favoured at Sylhet.
SYL Key Players
Nicolas Pooran’s outstanding batting form continued in the defeat to Dhaka Dynamites. The West Indian hit nine sixes in his 47-ball 72 – the only Sixers batsman to score more than 18. It followed 41 from 26 balls when these teams last met, and an unbeaten 52 from 32 balls against Chittagong Vikings.
The Comilla Victorians know all about Liton Das’ threat, meanwhile – he top-scored when these teams met in the final league game of last season, while still a Comilla batsman. He and captain David Warner – who scored 59 from 47 balls in the win against Chittagong Vikings – will hope for the big opening partnership that has so far eluded them.
With the ball, Taksin Ahmed has taken seven wickets in the last two games, following up his 4-28 in the win against Chittagong Vikings with 3-38 against Dhaka Dynamites. Sandeep Lamichhane went wicketless, but the Nepalese spinner claimed 2-16 from four overs when these sides last met, and also took eight wickets in four matches for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League before flying to Dhaka.
Sylhet Sixers Predicted Playing 11
- David Warner, Liton Das, Nasir Hossain, Nicolas Pooran, Sabbir Rahman, Afif Hossain, Alok Kapali, Sandeep Lamichhane, Al-Amin Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Irfan

COM Team News
Thisara Perera was thrown straight into the starting line-up for the match against Chittagong Vikings and showed no ill effects from his flight from New Zealand, where he had been on Sri Lankan duty. Perera replaced Shoaib Malik in the starting line-up and, after his superb innings last time out, will likely be higher up the order this time. Evin Lewis retired hurt in the defeat to Chittagong with a hamstring injury, and is unlikely to recover. Malik could therefore return, while Asela Gunaratne – who has also linked up after Sri Lankan duty – is another option. Steve Smith will miss the rest of the tournament after undergoing elbow surgery.
COM Key Players
Thisara Perera arrived in Bangladesh in top form after his performances for Sri Lanka in New Zealand and showed no let-up as he thumped eight sixes in a 26-ball, unbeaten 74 against Chittagong Vikings. He had previously scored 43 in the T20 international in New Zealand and hit scores of 140 and 80 in the ODI series.
It was a perfectly-timed intervention from the Sri Lankan after a rare failure for Shahid Afridi – the star of their last win, and also top scorer when they last faced Sylhet Sixers. Afridi has five wickets so far, after following up 3-10 with 1-15 last time out. He also 75 runs across four innings, 39 of which came in the win against Sylhet.
Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets and bowled economically when these sides last met and now has seven wickets in four games, meanwhile.
Elsewhere, Tamim Iqbal is due some runs after a slow start to this year’s tournament for the explosive Bangladeshi opener.
COM Team Form
Comilla Victorians won two of their opening four games in Dhaka. They restricted Sylhet Sixers to 127/8 on their way to a four-wicket win in their first game, but were bowled out for 63 in a heavy loss to Rangpur Riders next up.
Shahid Afridi took 3-10 from four overs as the Victorians hit back against Rajshahi Kings – bowling them out for 124 before Afridi hit the match-winning six, but again they could not follow it up. Thisara Perera bludgeoned an unbeaten 74 from 26 balls in a total of 184/5 but the Chittagong Vikings chased it down for the loss of six wickets, with two balls to spare.

SYL vs COM Head to Head
The two teams faced each other in their first match of this year’s tournament, with Comilla Victorians claiming a four-wicket win in the final over. Sylhet were put in to bat first and Nicolas Pooran top-scored with 41 from 26 balls in a below-par total of 127/8. In reply, Shahid Afrid’s unbeaten 39 from 25 balls swung the match Comilla’s way, as they claimed victory despite Sandeep Lamichhane’s 2-16 from four overs.
The only other previous matches between the two were in 2017. Liton Das smashed 65 from 43 balls for Comilla in the latter of those – the final league game of the season – and their total of 170/4 was enough for a 25-run win. Sylhet had won the first meeting, however, chasing 146 to win – in Sylhet – with one ball to spare.
